After the success of Tesla cars we can truly say that gasoline cars will slowly lose the title of the most widespread means of transport. Here are some good vehicles that use alternative fuels (electricity, hydrogen fuel cells) and can become popular in the near future.
7 Alternative Fuel Cars of the Future and Best Upcoming Tesla Rivals
Pininfarina H2 Speed
Mahindra, Indian multinational automobile manufacturing corporation, may use the technologies of the newly acquired company called Pininfarina in order to create a worthy competitor for the rapidly expanding sports EV segment.
Recently the designers and engineers at Pininfarina reveled H2 Speed – a sports car that uses hydrogen fuel to power two massive electric motors. Such technology was developed and tested by Green GT, a Swiss company that has spend years on researching the application of hydrogen fuel cell technology in performance cars.
As a result, Pininfarina H2 Speed’s setup is capable of producing about 500 horsepower and pushing the car from 0 to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 186 miles per hour.

Quant FE
The futuristic look of Quant FE sports car is being completed by not-less-futuristic technology that powers its electric motors. NanoFlowcell technology generates electricity from the ionic fluid – half positively and half negatively charged; the electricity is then transferred to the four electric motors that power each wheel with the peak output of 1090 horsepower and 2130 pound feet of torque.
With the specially adapted automatic transmission, Quant FE can go from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds and drive at speeds close to 190 miles per hour. Quant FE will also be able to overtake electric cars that use standard lithium-ion batteries with its range – with a full tank of ionic fluid this vehicle can go about 400 miles.

Quantino
The NanoFlowcell technology usage will also be expanded to other automotive products, for example in Quantino. Quantino is a compact hatchback car that is equipped with four electric motors that produce 108 horsepower and 147 pound feet of torque in total.
Such power output is capable of pushing the car to the speed of 62 miles per hour in just 5 seconds and allows the car to reach the speeds of up to 125 miles per hour. With two build-in 42-gallon tanks, the car will have enough ionic fluid to cover up to 620 miles, without stopping at the refueling station.
The experts from nanoFlowcell calculated that once the industrial production of ionic fluid is complete, fuel for every mile travelled will cost about 5 cents.

Nio EP9
NextEV, a Chinese car manufacturer, presented Nio EP9 - their first version of the megawatt electric hypercar.
This electric vehicle was designed and engineered in collaboration with Formula-E specialists, who helped Nio EP9 to become a car that belongs to a very short list of road-legal vehicles with over 1300 horsepower.
The carbon-fiber monocoque positively reflected on the overall weight of the car. And 3825-pound EP9 is brought into motion with the help of four electric motors, one for each wheel. As a result, this hypercar is capable of hitting the speed of 62 miles per hour in just 2.7 seconds and continuing up to the top speed of 195 miles per hour.
The installed an interchangeable battery system can guarantee up 265 miles of continuous driving and comes with a quick-charge option technology that needs only 45 minutes to be restored to the 100% charge.

Fisker EMotion
The news about the upcoming EMotion was released by Henrik Fisker, a reputable automotive designer, who is already known for his partnerships with Aston Martin and BMW. Several years ago he was managing the Fisker Karma project, a production of an electric sports car that unfortunately didn’t receive the desired attention of the automotive community.
The newest creation by Henrik Fisker is indented to compete with Tesla Model S in the luxury EV segment. Fisker EMotion is expected to have the total driving range of 400 miles, owing to the use of the graphene battery technology.
Right now we can say that this will be the only breakthrough technology in this car, but EMotion will come with some luxury features that were already presented by other manufacturers, mainly an interactive control and entertainment system, stylish "butterfly doors" and an advanced autopilot, similar to that of Tesla Model S.
Fisker EMotion looks incredible in theory but now we can just live in hope that this EV will actually roll of the production line and will reform better than the Karma.

LeEco LeSee Pro
Recently we have heard a lot of news about so called "Tesla rivals" from China but LeSee LeEco Pro seems to be the most promising of them all.
The exterior of this 4-door coupe is complemented by a stylish panoramic roof and a smooth body line. When looking at the interior you won’t be able to miss the fact that the manufacturer made a huge bet on interactive technologies and advanced electronics. LeSee LeEco Pro comes with a fully autonomous control system, after the activation of which the steering wheel automatically hides inside the dashboard.
LeSee Pro is designed mainly for Chinese consumers, who can’t afford Model S, which is even more expensive in China than in the US. At this time this Chinese Tesla rival is doing though final road tests and is expected to be produced in newest company factory in China soon.

Renault Trezor
Renault has entered the competition for making the best electric sport car by released the Trezor. It’s a concept EV, which is equipped with an electric motor technology that has been tested by the Renault racing team in Formula-E.
This very electric motor makes 350 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque and is powerful enough to push this sports car 0 to 62 miles per hour in less than four seconds.
The electric motor is powered by two batteries that are using their own cooling systems to guarantee maximum performance. Body components that were made of carbon fiber prototype positively influenced the overall weight of the car, while the Formula-E-type regenerative braking system helps to fill up the batteries "on the go" and increase the overall range.
The last thing everyone should know about the car is that it doesn’t have any doors and in order to get inside, the drivers has to lift the upper part of the vehicle.
