I'm Down.

New minimal tech heat from Momma's Boy... normally I might write a little something about a track but this time I'm afraid I might not be able to explain without using the dreaded T word (tr0p1cal) -but i wont cus if i did then people would think that it was ok to put animal noises in their music (and in case u were wondering, no, birds don't count).

meeeOW.

Dear Scion,

I wasn't sure what to think when I saw that the entire Made To Play crew was coming to Austin Texas this upcoming Wednesday. At first paranoia set in and I thought they were trying to personally attack me and my dream for some kind of local scene with such a move. This nausea was also accompanied by excitement because me and tons of other local DJs have been bragging about which Made To Play artist they're going to book and when it's gonna happen so get ready!!! Shhhh don't tell anyone but I'm looking at Riva Starr or Oliver $. Heard it before. Never happened. Why? Because most local promoters would never be able to generate enough money to actually book these guys. Why? Because....

Austin hates to pay cover charge for a DJ. It's a bar hopping city, all the clubs are shoved into one little district, which in turn makes both bar owners and DJs competitive penny pinching nut jobs who won't risk playing anything besides top 40 hip-hop in attempts to vie over every single body that passes by. What this means for most independent DJs is that they have to settle for playing for free or next to nothing.

Scion delivers the coup de grâce when they promote top level DJs at no cost to the club goers. And hey, I like free parties as much as the next guy but in a small city like Austin the fact that free events go on at such a magnitude seriously dilutes the local scene here. To any DJ who has ever wanted a piece of the pie here in Austin I salute you. Let's go out on wednesday and celebrate the ultimate triumph of Scion over our scene with a bunch of people who have probably never even heard of Made To Play and just want to smoke cigarettes on a patio and do something for "free".

Fuck you Scion and fuck your stupid nazi cars.

DMgeeeeeez

Just saw the Damaged Good$ crew throw down a serious set in the ATX. If you are a promoter you should book 'em ASAfuckinP... Having past collaborations with the likes of Johnny Moog, Spoek Mathambo, and Xrabit - this new one boasts Hudson Mohawke on the production.

P.S. I got the new mac os on this computer and the file sizes are whacky so it's 6.66 MB kinda freaking me out right now...

Can someone tell me just exactly what the hell is going on here?

VVV

Somehow there's always amazing shit right in your own backyard. Living in Austin, I'm not sure how I missed VVV. His amazing track "Traverse" not only has been getting a lot of talk both at the DSF and FGF but also made it's way onto one of Blackdown's recent mixes. The tune is forthcoming on Houston based Formant Recordings headed by Sines - who also recently bagged a release from Shortstuff - gives you an idea of where they're headed. Go Texas!

Darling Farah v. James Blake

Not sure what more can be said about our friend Darling Farah besides that he's one of the "brightest young talents" I know and continues to take fearless risks in the music game. One of those artists that just oozes originality and purity. James Blake (of Mount Kimbie & Untold's Hemlock fame) is also one of those artists. And here you have a fusion of the two.

Big Lorcan Mak

New swag from Lorcan Mak. His Crystal Fighters "I Love London" remix has been making the rounds and is forthcoming on Kitsuné. Kind of stoked about that since this blog has been watching him for quite some time. Crazy "tribal" dutch "alien" synths. Gwarn Lorcan!

Voltron

Just got some house bits sent to me from some Belgian dudes calling themselves Voltron. Not to be confused with Austin based DJ crew Irresponsible Voltron... These Voltron are responsible.. responsible for hooking up these tracks. Check em out!

Ill Cosby - Lo Oyen Digi-EP

Just a lil shameless self-promotion today. Recently did a remix for Seattle based
Ill Cosby's (best name ever?) Car Crash Set label - and I think it came out pretty good. Posting a stream here in efforts to draw a bit of attention to the EP (only has a limited release on Juno and Addictech). There's Ill Cosby's original tune Kalakuta, a saxed up tribal bmore mix, and the rather dope 'Lo Oyen' mix courtesy of the man Emvee who's obviously killing it lately with his release on Wireblock and vinyl - look for the Rat Race Riddim cut off the Groove EP.

Photomachine

Just caught some me new funky heat via soundcloud from a producer by the name of Photomachine. You might've taken notice of his Speech Debelle funky remix posted on RCRDLBL, a collaborative effort between Photomachine and none other than the El-B (out on Big Dada). African inspired tech house and funky with a clubby edge. Check the myspace for further details/tunes.

Free HiJack

New freebie tune from a very talented man with perhaps one of the all time top unoriginal names for a DJ/producer ever... HiJack... there's about six of you out there not counting those with alternate spellings. Been rocking this one out in most of my sets lately (though I'm not really one for disco anything) and since the man himself set it free I'm happy to share it with the world. Jackin' disco edit madness.

Gangsteppaz

After coming across a 4x4 bassline mix (a rare enough sight these days) from Poland posted on
Bass Music blog I had to investigate a bit further. Turns out these guys are not just into making new mixtapes of old bassline tunes but they're also making some really tight funky edits and originals which they've given me permission to share. If you can read Polish you might want to subscribe to their blog, hell even if you can't expect more fire to be posted on the regular. Gangsteppaz are BC, Metod, and Vanatoski.

Sam Tiba

Wanted to repost something I thought was really great. This one comes straight from the Club Cheval blog (Canblaster, Myd, and Sam Tiba) and in their own words, "This one is kicking major ass and will take the shit out of your baboon butt!" Ok, they might not be the most eloquent but they are making some dope tracks. Jamaican, mad drum, hardcore house? Pretty original sounds here so check it out.

Deadboy

This is news from early September but I hadn't seen this mix until now- so it's new to me! Deadboy's killing it with 2-step funky vibes. If you haven't heard 'U Cheated' go to his myspace pronto and then say to yourself "oh that's what song this is!"

Every track on this mix is fire strongly suggested you listen from start to finish, burn this one, i.e. if you still rock CDs in your car. It's custom made for the London bass and "tropical" themed night Un Bongo. Do it!

HighBloo

Dutch lazer pressurr from Belgium's
HighBloo. Don't know where all of this bouncy siren and lazer synth stuff is going but I'm just gonna enjoy it while it lasts (and while I can still hear). Note to DJs: please exhibit restraint when playing out these tunes. Yes, it's fun but I don't think anyone should be expected to handle a whole entire set of it. Remember to make very good use of your treble knobs. The following song is entitled "ouchhh !!!" that may or may not be poking fun at how ear-itating and annoying some of this music can be. Check out more great bloo hype over at IRWT favorites Voules Random and Louis Louis blogs.

schlachthofbronx

Well, it looks like Schlachtofbronx wants you to have another song off of their album for free. This time though it's one of my favorites. Mad Instrument! That track and Farafina have become staples in my sets lately so I'm proud to hook y'all up with this one. It's a playable 192 kbps mp3 but REAL DJS SPIN 320s and even more REAL DJS spin wavs. Now go spend $3 on a wav, make that $6 on two...

And check out this farafina track it's off the chain...
